A Lonely Woman Receives Christmas Cards from all around the world

An elderly Leeds woman has received hundreds of Christmas cards from people all over the world after her granddaughter posted an appeal on Facebook.

Margaret Pattison, 89, has been amazed by the amount of cards she has received, and is still getting more and more each day.
Jenny Leamey, Margaret’s granddaughter, started the appeal last year after her nana got upset that there were no cards coming through the post, as many of her friends have sadly passed away.
Jenny said: “I only expected to get a couple, but it went mad”

“My nana loves it every morning, she gets a new card and she sits and reads them all. She’s even re-reading all the old ones.”

Unfortunately Margaret is unable to go out at the moment, as she hasn’t been very well.
Her granddaughter moved in with her during the first lockdown so she could stay at home.

Jenny added: “My nana is like my mum, she brought me, my brother and sister up.

“Its amazing that there is a lot of kind people out there, to brighten up her Christmas.

“I would have no idea how many cards she has received, another bag full came yesterday.”
Cards have come from all over the world including Crete, Florida, New York and Spain.

Jenny added: “I don’t know how it got so far, even Christmas Island sent her one.
“She loves that someone sent her a card from Australia, because the card had a picture of Santa with shorts on – which made her so giddy.”

Not only has Margaret received cards but presents, chocolates and biscuits have also been delivered. One woman even wants to come over to meet her.
Jenny has put up all the cards on her walls too, for her nana to enjoy.

The family are trying to appeal for cards to be sent to local care homes as well to brighten up other elderly residents Christmas’.
